Mommy Makeover

A mommy makeover is not one fixed operation. It is a personalised combination of procedures—commonly tummy tuck, breast lift or augmentation, and selected liposuction—performed to address changes after pregnancy and breastfeeding when combining surgery is safe and appropriate.

What patients say.

All reviews
From the first consultation, I felt listened to rather than sold to. Everything was explained clearly, including what surgery could and couldn’t achieve. The result feels completely natural — I still look like myself, just more rested.
DIANAGOOGLE JAN 12, 2026
I was nervous about having surgery, but the whole process felt calm and very well organised. The team were reassuring without ever being dismissive, and the follow-up care was excellent.
HELENEGOOGLE DEC 10, 2025
What mattered most to me was that the result didn’t look ‘done’. The change is subtle, balanced and exactly what I hoped for.

/ How it works

How does Mommy Makeover work

  • Combines complementary procedures: Breast and abdominal surgery can be planned in one operative pathway when the total procedure remains appropriate for you.
  • Targets post-pregnancy change: Loose abdominal skin, rectus separation, breast descent and volume change can be considered together.
  • Avoids a one-size-fits-all package: The combination is selected according to anatomy and priorities rather than a preset menu.
  • Balances recovery and safety: The extent of surgery is limited by operative time, health, clot risk and the recovery support available at home.

01Step

Consultation

1. Understanding Your Goals

  • Your priorities: The consultation starts with what you would like to change, what matters most to you and what you hope surgery will achieve.

2. Clinical Assessment

  • Clinical assessment: Dr Mercer assesses anatomy, tissue quality, asymmetry, scars and any factors that may affect the operation or healing.

3. Options, Limits & Planning

  • Options and limits: Suitable surgical options, likely scars, trade-offs and realistic outcomes are discussed rather than assuming that surgery is the right answer.
  • Planning: If you choose to proceed, clinical photography, measurements and a personalised operative plan are completed before a surgery date is confirmed.
02Step

Planning

Before planning

  • Family timing: Surgery is best considered after breastfeeding has finished and when no near-term pregnancy is planned.
  • Weight stability: Maintain a stable, sustainable weight before committing to combined body-contouring surgery.

4–6 weeks before

  • Nicotine: Stop all nicotine for the period specified by your surgeon.
  • Support network: Arrange substantial practical help, especially with young children and lifting restrictions.

2 weeks before

  • Medical preparation: Complete requested tests and follow thrombosis-prevention and medication instructions.
03Step

Surgery day

Anaesthesia

  • General anaesthetic: Combined surgery is performed under general anaesthesia with a consultant anaesthetist.

Combination plan

  • Breast stage: The breast procedure may be a lift, augmentation or augmentation-lift.
  • Abdominal stage: A tummy tuck can remove excess skin and repair rectus separation when present.
  • Liposuction: Selected areas may be contoured if this can be added safely.
  • Extent: The exact combination is agreed in advance and may be reduced or staged if a safer operative plan is preferable.
04Step

Recovery

Week 1

  • Recovery: This is a significant recovery period with abdominal tightness, breast swelling and restricted lifting.

Weeks 2–3

  • Mobility: Walking becomes easier, but help with children and household tasks is still important.

Weeks 4–6

  • Work and exercise: Return to work and exercise depends on the most restrictive procedure in your combination.

3–12 months

  • Final result: Breast and abdominal tissues continue to settle and scars mature over many months.
05Step

Aftercare

First 2 weeks

  • Help at home: Plan for substantial practical support; you will not be able to lift children or perform normal household tasks.
  • Walking: Walk little and often while wearing prescribed compression and following clot-prevention advice.

Weeks 3–6

  • Progressive activity: Activity increases gradually, but breast and abdominal restrictions both need to be respected.
  • Reviews: Attend scheduled breast and abdominal wound reviews.
06Step

Follow-up

Early review

  • What happens: The team checks wounds, swelling, comfort and any dressings during the first postoperative period.

1–2 weeks

  • What happens: Incisions and early healing are reviewed; sutures or dressings are removed when appropriate and activity guidance is updated.

6 weeks

  • What happens: Dr Mercer reviews recovery, scars and return to exercise, and checks that healing is progressing as expected.

3–6 months

  • What happens: Progress photographs may be taken as swelling settles and scars continue to mature.

Around 1 year

  • What happens: A longer-term review can be used to assess the mature result once tissues and scars have fully settled.

Contraindications

When Surgery May Not Be Suitable

  • Uncontrolled medical conditions: Elective surgery may need to be postponed until significant heart, lung, clotting, metabolic or other medical problems are appropriately managed.
  • Nicotine use: Smoking, vaping and nicotine products can materially increase wound-healing and tissue-compromise risks; a nicotine-free period may be required.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding: Elective aesthetic surgery is normally deferred until pregnancy and breastfeeding are complete and the body has stabilised.
  • Unrealistic expectations: Surgery can change anatomy and proportion, but it cannot create perfect symmetry or guarantee a particular emotional or social outcome.
  • Insufficient recovery support: Combined surgery requires meaningful help at home because lifting, childcare and household tasks are restricted.

Risks and side effects

Risks & Possible Complications

All surgery carries risk. Your individual risk profile is discussed during consultation and again as part of the consent process.

  • Longer anaesthetic and combined-surgery risk: Combining procedures increases operative time and can increase physiological stress compared with a smaller single procedure.
  • Blood clots: Major body contouring carries DVT and pulmonary embolism risk; prevention is an important part of planning.
  • Wound healing and seroma: Abdominal and breast incisions can heal at different rates, and fluid collections can occur.
  • Breast-specific risks: Depending on the chosen breast operation, risks can include implant complications, nipple sensation change and asymmetry.
  • Scarring: Permanent breast and abdominal scars are expected.
  • Staged surgery may be safer: If the desired combination would be too extensive, operations may be separated rather than performed together.

/ FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What procedures are included in a mommy makeover?
There is no fixed package. Common combinations include tummy tuck with breast lift, breast augmentation or both, sometimes with targeted liposuction.
How long after pregnancy should I wait?
Timing is individual, but surgery is generally considered only after breastfeeding has finished, weight has stabilised and the body has had time to recover from pregnancy.
Can all procedures always be done together?
No. The safest plan depends on your health, BMI, clot risk, total operative time and the extent of each procedure. Staging may be recommended.
How much does a mommy makeover cost?
Fees depend on the exact combination. Indicative combined surgery starts from £16,500 and is quoted individually after consultation.
